According to a report by FootballTransfers on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Brighton and Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler remains committed to his current position despite being mentioned as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick at Manchester United.

Carrick is facing mounting pressure following Manchester United’s disappointing start to the 2026/27 season, with their humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como further increasing doubts about his future at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have recorded just two victories in their opening 11 matches across all competitions and are currently enduring a seven-game winless run.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has also publicly expressed his frustration with the club’s situation, adding to the growing uncertainty surrounding the team.

Although reports indicate that senior figures at Old Trafford continue to support Carrick, the upcoming Premier League clash against Bournemouth could become an important test of his ability to turn the situation around.

Hurzeler has emerged as a possible candidate to take over if United decide to change managers, following his impressive work at Brighton. However, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the German tactician is not currently considering a departure from the Seagulls.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano praised the Brighton manager’s work and explained that he remains focused on his responsibilities at the club.

"Fabian Hurzeler is doing fantastic at Brighton.

"Manchester United have someone on their board who really appreciates Fabian Hurzeler, but that’s it; at the moment, he’s completely focused on Brighton," Romano said.

Other managers reportedly being considered as potential replacements for Carrick include former Napoli boss Antonio Conte, ex-Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe and Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Former England striker Alan Shearer has also suggested that Hurzeler could be a suitable candidate to take charge at Manchester United if the club decides to dismiss Carrick.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer said, "If Michael Carrick is relieved of his duties, Fabian Hurzeler would be a good replacement, but it’s a very different model at Brighton."

He also identified Howe and Conte as other managers United could consider before explaining why Carrick is under pressure.

"I guess the manager you’d also look at is Eddie Howe. You’d look at Antonio Conte as well.

"Whether you like it or not, that’s what happens when you’re not winning football matches and when you’re at one of the biggest clubs in the world so you have to accept that, and I’m pretty sure Michael Carrick does.

"That’s why Michael desperately needs some results or he’s going to continue to get names linked with his job," Shearer added.

For now, Hurzeler’s position appears unchanged, with Romano’s comments indicating that the Brighton manager remains focused on his current responsibilities rather than pursuing a move to Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Carrick must find a way to improve United’s results and ease the growing pressure surrounding his position, as speculation over potential replacements continues ahead of their upcoming Premier League fixture.
