According to a report by BBC Sport on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2 at the Parc des Princes in the UEFA Champions League, handing the Spanish giants their first defeat of this season’s competition.
PSG made their attacking intentions clear from the opening stages and eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute. Désiré Doué found the net with an impressive strike from outside the penalty area, with João Neves providing the assist to give the French champions a deserved lead before the interval.
Barcelona returned for the second half determined to fight back and restored parity in the 55th minute. Xavi Espart finished with his right foot after receiving a pass from Fermín López, giving the visitors renewed hope of turning the contest around.
However, PSG responded by regaining the advantage in the 72nd minute. Doué delivered a corner that found Lucas Hernández, who rose above the Barcelona defence to head the ball into the net and put the hosts back in front.
Barcelona continued to search for another equaliser, and Lamine Yamal reduced the deficit in the 79th minute, keeping the visitors’ hopes alive. The goal briefly increased the pressure on PSG, but the home side quickly reasserted their control.
Vitinha extended PSG’s lead in the 81st minute with a powerful effort from outside the box, leaving Barcelona with another difficult task. Five minutes later, Fabián Ruiz completed the scoring by converting from close range after receiving an assist from Achraf Hakimi.
Despite enjoying possession during parts of the closing stages, Barcelona struggled to create enough clear-cut opportunities to mount another comeback. PSG, meanwhile, remained composed and secured an important victory in front of their home supporters.
The result lifted Paris Saint-Germain to nine points from three matches, keeping them at the top of the Champions League standings. Barcelona, who had won their opening two fixtures, remain on six points and dropped to fifth place following the defeat.
The victory strengthens PSG’s position in the league phase, while Barcelona will need to respond in their upcoming European fixtures to maintain their challenge for a place among the competition’s leading teams.
