According to a report by London Evening Standard on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Liverpool will be without Jeremie Frimpong for their upcoming Premier League clash against Arsenal, with manager Andoni Iraola expecting the defender to remain sidelined until the November international break.
Iraola delivered contrasting injury updates on Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai on Monday, explaining that while one player faces an extended absence, the other remains closer to returning to action soon.
Szoboszlai recently suffered discomfort after making his comeback from injury, raising concerns about another setback. However, Iraola confirmed the midfielder’s hamstring problem has not significantly worsened, offering encouragement for Liverpool supporters.
The Liverpool manager explained that Szoboszlai’s condition remains similar to last week’s situation. Although he could miss the next two matches, the midfielder is expected to recover fully afterwards.
Frimpong’s injury presents a more serious concern, with the defender suffering a fresh muscle problem shortly after entering his previous appearance. His recovery timeline remains uncertain for Liverpool.
“I think they are different circumstances,” Iraola said, explaining that Frimpong’s new muscle injury occurred within the opening minutes of his appearance, making his recovery difficult to predict.
The manager added that Liverpool would attempt to have Frimpong available before the international break, although achieving that target would be difficult given the circumstances surrounding his injury.
Regarding Szoboszlai, Iraola stressed that the midfielder had not aggravated his existing problem. Liverpool simply need patience while he completes his recovery and regains full fitness.
These contrasting situations could significantly affect Liverpool’s preparations for Arsenal’s visit to Anfield on November 1, with Frimpong unlikely to feature while Szoboszlai has a better chance.
Liverpool have several important fixtures before facing Arsenal, including Champions League action against Villarreal, a Premier League encounter with Brighton, and a League Cup meeting against Chelsea.
All three matches will take place at Anfield, giving Liverpool opportunities to manage their squad carefully while monitoring both players’ progress throughout the coming days.
Following Arsenal’s visit, Liverpool will travel to face Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace before the November international break begins, potentially giving Frimpong additional recovery time.
