Arsenal Told To Sign Manchester City Striker In January

According to a report by Metro on Friday, October 16, 2026, Arsenal have been urged to make an ambitious move for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland when the January transfer window opens, with football pundit Adrian Durham believing the Norway international could make a huge difference to Mikel Arteta’s team.

Haaland has continued to establish himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in world football, thanks to his impressive goalscoring record since joining Manchester City. However, questions have been raised about his future at the Etihad Stadium as the club face the possibility of serious punishment following their financial charges.

Durham believes Arsenal should take advantage of the situation and try to bring the former Borussia Dortmund striker to the Emirates Stadium, arguing that his arrival could make the Gunners a much stronger team capable of dominating their opponents.

Speaking about the possibility of City facing relegation, Durham said: "I was thinking to myself, just imagine Man City get relegated to the North West Counties Premier Division. And all those players want to leave. Would any of those players get into the PSG side? I couldn’t really think of too many. Then, I thought Erling Haaland would get into any side in the world, his goal rate is phenomenal, and then an idea struck me, Arsenal in January should go for Erling Haaland."

The pundit also suggested that Haaland could consider leaving Manchester City if the Premier League hands the club a severe punishment over the alleged financial rule breaches. Such a situation could create an opportunity for other top European clubs to approach the striker, although there is no guarantee that City would be willing to let him go.

For Arsenal, signing a player of Haaland’s quality would be a major statement of intent, particularly as they continue to compete for important honours. His ability to find the net regularly could give Arteta another attacking option and make the team even more difficult for their rivals to contain.
