José Mourinho has delivered an emotional message to AS Roma fans following the warm reception he received at the Stadio Olimpico during Real Madrid’s recent visit, according to Madrid Universal on Friday, October 16, 2026.
The former Roma manager returned to the Italian capital for the first time since leaving the club in April 2024. Supporters welcomed him enthusiastically, making it clear that his achievements and influence during his time in charge remain highly valued.
Following the reception, Mourinho used social media to express his gratitude, reflecting on the emotional connection he still shares with the Roma faithful.
“When the most beautiful moments of a long career are neither the goals nor the victories, but rather the emotions for which I can only humbly express my gratitude.
“Thank you Roma and thank you Roma fans. Emotions and eternal gratitude towards you,” he wrote, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Mourinho managed Roma from 2021 to 2024, leading the Italian side to the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2022. Winning the competition gave the club a major European honour and further strengthened the Portuguese coach’s relationship with its supporters.
To mark his return, Roma fans displayed banners celebrating his accomplishments and the lasting impact he had on the club. One message paid tribute to those who bring honour to the city and earn the eternal admiration of its people.
The reception highlighted the enduring respect and affection Mourinho enjoys among Roma supporters, even though he has since taken charge of Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The manager has also been commended for his role in Real Madrid’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Roma after his side recovered from a 3-1 deficit. His second-half tactical changes and substitutions were considered important factors in the comeback.
Mourinho must now prepare his players for their next La Liga match against Sevilla. Real Madrid will enter the fixture hoping to make up ground on Barcelona, who currently sit six points ahead at the top of the table.
