According to a report by Chelsea Chronicle on Monday November 2, 2026, Romeo Lavia has revealed that former Chelsea forward Eden Hazard is helping him maintain his impressive form this season.
The Belgian midfielder says regular conversations with the club legend provide extra motivation as he works to make Hazard proud.
Lavia was outstanding as Chelsea secured a 2-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United. His display was widely regarded as one of his best since joining the club. Hazard was present at Stamford Bridge to watch his compatriot in action.
Hazard played an important role in convincing Lavia to move to Chelsea from Southampton in the summer of 2023. Their relationship has continued, with the pair staying in regular contact.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lavia explained how much the former Chelsea star means to him. He described Hazard as an important figure and said seeing the pride in his eyes gives him additional motivation. The midfielder was pleased to have him watching from the stands.
Although Xabi Alonso would welcome having a player like Hazard in his squad, Chelsea already possess considerable attacking quality. Morgan Rogers scored an excellent solo goal against United, while Cole Palmer converted a penalty. Estevao Willian also impressed after receiving his first Premier League start of the season.
Lavia’s improvement has not been limited to his work in possession. His defensive contribution has increased significantly this campaign. FotMob records his average defensive contributions at 14.56, compared with 8.83 last season.
The midfielder is also making more tackles and interceptions under Alonso. He is averaging 3.15 tackles per 90 minutes, up from 1.91 last season. His interceptions have risen from 1.19 to 2.91.
Lavia’s top speed has also improved, reaching 32.7 km/h compared with 31.9 km/h last season. Chelsea will hope he maintains this level when they travel to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
