Barcelona star confirms he’s ready for Arsenal move

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reportedly has his eyes set on Barcelona teenager Xavi Espart, who has confirmed that he is ready for a move to the Premier League.

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, Arsenal and Liverpool are monitoring the versatile full-back, who has made 14 appearances for Barcelona under manager Hansi Flick.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly interested in Espart as he considers options for the club’s defence. The teenager’s emergence could become particularly relevant if Riccardo Calafiori attracts a significant offer from Real Madrid.

Espart caught attention during Barcelona’s 4-2 defeat to PSG on Tuesday, delivering an impressive defensive performance against Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The Georgian winger struggled to make a decisive impact before leaving the pitch after an hour with a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The Barcelona youngster also demonstrated his attacking qualities, scoring his side’s opening goal following a powerful forward run. He has now registered two goals and two assists this season.

Spanish publication AS praised his performance, writing: “Stellar. He made his first start at right-back and did so with an overwhelming presence.

“He completely neutralised a player of Kvaratskhelia's calibre and even had time to get forward and score a fantastic goal, thanks to an excellent assist from Fermin.”

Espart’s ability to operate on either flank, combined with his defensive discipline and attacking contribution, has strengthened his reputation as one of Barcelona’s emerging talents.

However, persuading the Spanish champions to sell the teenager would be difficult. Espart is contracted to Barcelona until 2030, and the club are reportedly unwilling to entertain offers for him.

According to the report, his release clause is believed to be well above €100 million, although the precise figure remains unclear. Such a valuation could make negotiations challenging for Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Gunners’ interest could depend partly on Calafiori’s future. Real Madrid have reportedly been linked with the Italian defender, and Arsenal would likely demand a substantial fee before considering his departure.

Espart has yet to establish himself over an extended period at senior level, meaning a move to England would represent a significant step in his development.
