Barcelona Introduce New Penalty Clauses Against Limak Over Camp Nou Delays

According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday November 5, 2026, Barcelona have tightened their contractual measures against construction company Limak over concerns surrounding delays to the Spotify Camp Nou redevelopment.

The club and project investors have introduced new penalty clauses that could allow Barcelona to appoint another contractor to handle the stadium roof installation if important construction deadlines are not respected.

According to reports, the new measures were agreed upon by Barcelona and the investors who provided financing for the project, which is approaching €2 billion. The decision reflects growing concerns about the financial consequences of further delays to the redevelopment.

Two major deadlines have been established under the new conditions. The first requires Limak to complete the new Barcelona Botiga, which will replace the existing club store, by January 2027. The second demands that at least 75 per cent of the VIP seating areas be ready by March 31, 2027.

Failure to achieve either target could give Barcelona the option of hiring another construction company to oversee the installation of the stadium roof. Both facilities are considered important to the club's commercial plans because they are expected to generate significant matchday revenue.

Barcelona currently expect roof installation to begin in June 2027, following the conclusion of the football season. The construction work is scheduled to continue until October or November of the same year.

As a result, the first team could return to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for the opening months of the 2027-28 campaign. The club have already reserved Montjuic until January 2028, when they hope to return to Camp Nou with a capacity of approximately 95,000 spectators.

The stadium's eventual capacity is expected to reach 104,000.

Barcelona's financial situation has also influenced their tougher approach, as playing at Montjuic previously reduced their projected revenue. Meanwhile, Limak declined to comment on the latest contractual measures, although Barcelona reportedly have alternative arrangements prepared.
