According to a report by Punch on Sunday, October 18, 2026, the Super Eagles midfielder scored in the 33rd minute to secure Fulham’s first league victory of the season and deliver a maiden win for manager Alvaro Arbeloa since his appointment.
Iwobi took advantage of Hull City’s failure to clear the ball from their defensive area after Sander Berge laid it off to him near the edge of the penalty box. The Nigerian midfielder unleashed a low effort that took a deflection off Lucas Herrington before beating goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.
The strike marked Iwobi’s first Premier League goal of the current campaign, taking his overall tally in the competition to 36 goals from 327 appearances. The achievement places him alongside Odemwingie in joint-sixth position among Nigerian players with the most goals in the English top flight.
Before the match, Iwobi had created 13 chances across six league appearances, making him Fulham’s leading player in that category. However, he had been unable to register either a goal or an assist until his decisive contribution against Hull.
His goal ended that unproductive spell and proved crucial for a Fulham side that had gone six consecutive league matches without a victory. The result also provided relief for Arbeloa, whose team had struggled to find consistency since the beginning of the season.
The encounter featured two other Nigerian internationals. Defender Calvin Bassey captained Fulham and played the entire match alongside Iwobi, while Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi completed the game for Hull City.
Fulham had entered the fixture under pressure after collecting just two points from their opening six league games under Arbeloa, who replaced Marco Silva in July. Saturday’s victory raised their points total to five and offered a much-needed boost in their efforts to move away from the bottom of the table.
Hull, meanwhile, failed to capitalise on their encouraging start to the campaign, which included a win against Manchester United and a draw with Chelsea. Mohamed Belloumi missed one of their better second-half chances, dragging his effort wide as the visitors searched for an equaliser.
The contest ended with Fulham reduced to 10 men after Ryan Sessegnon received a stoppage-time red card for a dangerous challenge on Robinio Vaz’s calf.
Iwobi’s achievement further strengthens his place among Nigeria’s leading Premier League scorers, behind Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Nwankwo Kanu, Efan Ekoku, Shola Ameobi and Kelechi Iheanacho.
