According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos secured a 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico in their second Group B match at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Nigerian youngsters claimed all three points after a disciplined performance that saw them take control through Oluwakemi Adegbuyi’s first-half goal before Precious Oscar sealed the victory deep into stoppage time.
Adegbuyi broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, giving Nigeria an important advantage as they looked to recover from their opening result in the competition.
Puerto Rico attempted to respond after falling behind and worked to find a way back into the contest. However, Nigeria remained organised defensively and prevented their opponents from finding an equaliser.
The Flamingos maintained their narrow advantage through the remainder of normal time as Puerto Rico continued to search for an opening.
Oscar then settled the contest in stoppage time when she scored Nigeria’s second goal, ensuring the Flamingos finished the match with a two-goal advantage.
The victory moved Akeem Busari’s side into second position in Group B with three points from their opening two matches.
Defending champions DPR Korea remain top of the group with six points after an emphatic 6-1 victory over Poland earlier on Tuesday. The result leaves Nigeria three points behind the leaders ahead of the final round of group fixtures.
Nigeria will face DPR Korea in their final group match on Friday, with the encounter set to determine their position in the group and their prospects of progressing further in the tournament.
The Flamingos will enter the fixture with renewed confidence after securing their first victory of the competition, while DPR Korea will look to maintain their perfect start after another convincing performance.
Nigeria’s defensive organisation against Puerto Rico proved decisive as the team protected its early lead before Oscar’s late goal removed any doubt over the outcome.
The Flamingos now have three points from two matches and will need another strong performance against the defending champions in their final Group B fixture.
