Manchester United have been warned that their struggles on the pitch could make it increasingly difficult to attract top players, with the club facing growing uncertainty over its sporting direction and managerial future.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Sunday, 25 October 2026, the Red Devils’ disappointing results, financial limitations and lack of a clear tactical identity could undermine their ability to convince leading players to join them in upcoming transfer windows.
United are enduring a difficult period, having gone eight matches without a win in all competitions. Their 4-1 defeat to Como during the week further exposed the team’s problems before Saturday’s 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth intensified the pressure on manager Michael Carrick.
The report highlighted Youri Tielemans’ five-year contract as an example of the club’s recruitment strategy, questioning the long-term implications of offering such an agreement to a 29-year-old midfielder reportedly earning around £250,000 per week.
Benjamin Sesko was also cited as a player whose progress has been affected by United’s struggles. The Slovenian striker arrived with considerable expectations but has endured a difficult spell, with injuries adding to his challenges.
Other signings mentioned in the analysis include Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount, Antony and Andre Onana.
The report questioned whether these players would choose to join United again, given the difficulties experienced during their time at Old Trafford.
Financial constraints present another challenge. According to the report, financial expert Jamie Bajwa’s assessment suggests that consistent Champions League qualification would be important in providing United with a more stable financial platform for future spending.
The club’s managerial uncertainty could also complicate recruitment. Different tactical approaches under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim and Carrick have contributed to questions about the team’s long-term direction.
The situation has been further complicated by criticism from senior players, including Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez, amid growing frustration over the club’s performances and leadership.
United are currently 16th in the Premier League table with seven points from eight matches, leaving them under pressure to improve before upcoming fixtures against Chelsea, Aston Villa and Liverpool.
