Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen as they explore possible long-term options to replace Thibaut Courtois.
According to a report by Madrid Universal on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Spanish giants have identified the 24-year-old Netherlands international as a potential successor to Courtois, whose current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu is due to expire in 2027.
Verbruggen has impressed with his performances in the Premier League, particularly during Brighton's recent encounter with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The Dutch goalkeeper made seven saves on October 31 to help Brighton secure an impressive 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola's side. His outstanding performance was crucial as Manchester City created several scoring opportunities but failed to find the back of the net.
His display further demonstrated his ability to deliver under pressure against some of the strongest teams in European football. His excellent reflexes, positioning and composure have also made him an increasingly valuable player for Brighton.
Verbruggen arrived at Brighton from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2023 and has gradually established himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper. His impressive progress has also earned him regular appearances for the Netherlands national team.
Real Madrid are reportedly assessing different aspects of his game, including his shot-stopping ability, distribution and confidence when playing with the ball at his feet.
These qualities could make him an appealing option for the Spanish giants, who expect their goalkeepers to contribute not only to defensive responsibilities but also to building attacks from the back.
Meanwhile, 34-year-old Courtois remains Madrid's first-choice goalkeeper and continues to play an important role in the squad managed by Jose Mourinho.
The Belgian international has maintained his importance since joining the club, but his contract situation has encouraged the Spanish side to begin considering possible alternatives for the future.
Although discussions over a potential contract extension are reportedly continuing, Madrid are still evaluating other goalkeeping options as part of their long-term plans.
At present, there is no confirmation that Real Madrid have made an official approach for Verbruggen or are preparing to complete an immediate transfer.
Nevertheless, the Brighton goalkeeper's impressive performances have reportedly attracted the Spanish club's attention as they begin planning for life beyond Courtois.
