According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Chelsea have strengthened their position at the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) standings following an emphatic 6-0 victory over Charlton Athletic, while Manchester City maintained their title challenge with an away win against London City Lionesses.
Arsenal, meanwhile, dropped valuable points after being held to a 1-1 draw by Aston Villa, leaving the Gunners further behind the leading teams in the title race.
Chelsea produced an outstanding attacking display against Charlton, scoring four goals within the opening 19 minutes before adding two more to complete a convincing 6-0 triumph.
The victory took the defending champions to 22 points from eight matches, extending their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
Manchester City also continued their impressive form with a 2-1 victory over London City Lionesses. Khadija Shaw gave City the lead before Jana Fernandez equalised for the hosts. However, Lauren Hemp restored City’s advantage with the winning goal.
The result moved Manchester City to 22 points, level with Chelsea, although they remain second because of their inferior goal difference.
Arsenal also suffered a setback in their pursuit of the league leaders after settling for a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.
Chasity Grant put Villa ahead before Alessia Russo salvaged a point for the Gunners with an 85th-minute equaliser.
The draw left Arsenal trailing Chelsea and Manchester City as the competition for the WSL title intensified.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur climbed to fourth place following a convincing 4-1 victory over Birmingham City. Brighton also secured a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace, while West Ham United defeated Liverpool 4-1.
In the standings, Chelsea occupy the first position with 22 points and a goal difference of +23. Manchester City have the same number of points but sit second with a goal difference of +12.
Manchester United are fifth with 12 points, while Arsenal occupy seventh position with 10 points after their draw against Aston Villa.
At the opposite end of the table, Charlton Athletic remain in 14th place without a point after suffering eight consecutive defeats.
With several fixtures still remaining in the season, the battle for the WSL championship, European qualification places and survival is expected to become increasingly competitive as the campaign progresses.
