'Our defenders will neutralize him' – Fenerbahce's Muriqi warns Osimhen ahead of Galatasaray clash

According to a report by Daily Post on Monday October 26, 2026, Fenerbahçe forward Vedat Muriqi has sent a strong warning to Victor Osimhen ahead of the highly anticipated Turkish Süper Lig derby against Galatasaray, insisting that his team's defence has what it takes to stop the Nigerian striker.

The two Turkish giants are set to meet at Rams Park on Monday, October 26, with both sides expected to approach the encounter with determination given the intensity of their rivalry.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Muriqi acknowledged Osimhen's quality but expressed confidence that Fenerbahçe's defensive unit could prevent the Galatasaray forward from making a significant impact.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, the Fenerbahçe striker believes that collective effort and defensive organisation will be crucial to containing the Super Eagles international.

"He's a very strong and good player, but I trust my teammates," Muriqi told beIN Sport, via Turk Inform.

"I think our defensive line can neutralise Osimhen’s quickness and gain the upper hand."

Muriqi's comments underline Fenerbahçe's determination to limit the influence of one of Galatasaray's most dangerous attacking players.

Osimhen has established himself as a major threat since joining Galatasaray, using his pace, physical strength, movement and finishing ability to trouble opposition defenders.

The 27-year-old Nigerian international has also enjoyed positive experiences against Fenerbahçe, making the upcoming encounter another important opportunity for him to demonstrate his influence in one of Turkish football's biggest fixtures.

According to the report, Osimhen has remained unbeaten in five official matches against Fenerbahçe since his move to Galatasaray.

His record includes two victories and two draws in four league meetings, with one goal scored in those encounters.

The Nigerian forward also delivered a memorable performance in the 2024–25 Türkiye Cup quarter-final, scoring twice as Galatasaray secured a 2-1 victory over their fierce rivals.

That performance will serve as a reminder of the problems Osimhen can cause when he finds space in the penalty area and receives quality service from his teammates.

However, Muriqi believes Fenerbahçe can approach the challenge differently by relying on defensive discipline rather than allowing the Galatasaray forward to dictate the contest.

For Fenerbahçe's defenders, containing Osimhen will require concentration throughout the match. The Nigerian striker is capable of exploiting small gaps in defensive lines, while his physical presence can make it difficult for opponents to prevent him from reaching crosses and through balls.

Limiting the space available to him and preventing him from turning towards goal could therefore be central to Fenerbahçe's approach.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, will hope their attacking players can provide Osimhen with the opportunities needed to trouble their opponents. The home side will also be aware that the striker's movement can create space for teammates, even when he is unable to find the back of the net himself.

Osimhen enters the derby after failing to score in his previous two Turkish league appearances. Galatasaray nevertheless recorded victories against Kasımpaşa and Gençlerbirliği during that period.

He subsequently ended his scoring drought by finding the net against his former club Lille in the UEFA Champions League, providing a timely boost ahead of the meeting with Fenerbahçe.

That goal could prove important for his confidence as he prepares for another demanding test against familiar opposition.

Nevertheless, Fenerbahçe will be determined to prevent him from building on that performance. Muriqi's remarks suggest that the team are confident their defenders can manage the challenge through teamwork and tactical organisation.
