According to report by Vanguard on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the new General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, is a Nigerian football administrator.
After an extensive recruitment process, the continental football governing body CAF made the appointment public on Sunday, November 1, 2026, through a statement posted on its official website.
Adamu had been serving in an acting capacity since March following the resignation of Veron Mosengo-Omba, who went on to become president of the football federation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The appointment was the result of a public posting of the position and interviews with multiple candidates, as stated by Patrice Motsepe, president of the CAF.
After joining CAF in 2018 in the role of Director of Competitions, Adamu subsequently became Director of Tournaments and Events, bringing with him eight years of expertise within the organization.
While praising his work in African football, Motsepe singled out his role in coordinating several important continental tournaments, such as the esteemed TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
The new General Secretary has a strong background in football administration and is a graduate of the FIFA Master program in International Management, Law, and the Humanities of Sport.
As part of his new role, Adamu will oversee the day-to-day administrative operations of CAF and make sure that the organization's strategic goals are being effectively implemented.
Amos Adamu, who served as a member of the FIFA Executive Committee and as Director of Sports in the then-Ministry of Sports, is his father.
He joins other famous people who have held the powerful position before his appointment.
There are three members of this family: Mourad Fahmy of Egypt (served 1961–1982), Mustapha Fahmy (served 1982–2010), and Amr Fahmy (served 2017–2019).
Nigeria has made great strides in the administration of African football with Adamu's appointment.
