According to a report by footballTransfers on Tuesday November 3, 2026, Yan Diomande has made an immediate impact at Real Madrid.
Signed from RB Leipzig for a reported €125 million in the summer, the 19-year-old has turned an uncertain start into a run of impressive performances, recording four goals and three assists since the international break.
He also scored in the weekend win over Racing Santander. Although he did not find the net in El Clasico, his display underlined why Madrid invested so heavily in him.
Diomande’s emergence is promising for the club but it could complicate Vinicius Junior’s return from injury.
The Brazilian signed a six-year deal in August reportedly worth around €22 million a season. Now, Madrid must find a way to fit two high-profile attackers into a team where Diomande is rapidly establishing himself.
This season, Diomande has averaged 0.97 goals and assists per 90 minutes across all competitions, compared with Vinicius’s 0.45. Those figures place the Brazilian eighth among Madrid’s players listed in the article’s statistics.
Diomande has been most effective on the left, while Kylian Mbappé occupies the central attacking role. Madrid also have several options on the right, including Arda Güler, Brahim Díaz and Rodrygo.
Shifting Diomande across the pitch to accommodate Vinicius could weaken the balance the team has recently found.
Vinicius has previously made clear that he wants a leading role. His reaction to being substituted during a Clasico last season drew attention, while negotiations over his new contract reportedly centred partly on his salary.
When Vinicius is available again, manager José Mourinho will face a difficult choice: move Diomande from his strongest position or leave the Brazilian out of the starting XI.
Neither option is straightforward. Benching a player on a reported €22 million annual salary could create tension, while changing a winning lineup risks disrupting the team’s form.
Vinicius is reportedly under contract until 2032, with a substantial portion of his deal still to run.
A transfer would also be difficult to arrange: few clubs could afford both a major fee and his wages. Arsenal have been linked with him, but the financial demands would be considerable.
Diomande’s rise has given Madrid a new attacking force. It has also left the club with a pressing question: how can they get the best from Vinicius without compromising a player who is already delivering?
