EPL: Chelsea Fans Will Absolutely Love Peter Crouch And Steve Sidwell’s Predictions For Sunderland

According to a report by Football London on Thursday November 5, 2026, Chelsea head to Sunderland on Sunday hoping to continue their impressive Premier League revival, with pundits Peter Crouch and Steve Sidwell confidently predicting another convincing victory.

Before the international break, the Blues struggled badly, enduring three consecutive matches without winning, including a disappointing defeat against Brentford. However, Xabi Alonso has successfully transformed their performances since then.

Victories against Bournemouth, Everton and Manchester United have strengthened Chelsea's position inside the Premier League's top four, despite dealing with numerous injury problems throughout the campaign.

Chelsea previously suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Sunderland in their final fixture of last season. Wesley Fofana's dismissal significantly affected their performance and European qualification hopes.

Sunderland, however, have struggled considerably this season, managing just one victory from nine Premier League matches while balancing domestic responsibilities with their Europa League commitments.

Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch and ex-Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell both predicted comfortable victories for Alonso's men at the Stadium of Light.

Crouch described Chelsea as an exciting team to watch, saying: “Chelsea, for me, still like watching them play. They’re very exciting to watch.”

Sidwell predicted a 3-0 Chelsea victory, explaining Sunderland's demanding European schedule could negatively affect their domestic performance. Crouch subsequently backed an even bigger win, forecasting a 4-0 result.

Meanwhile, Alonso faces several selection decisions ahead of Sunday's encounter, particularly regarding his defensive and midfield options following Chelsea's previous victory against Manchester United.

Wesley Fofana remains under criticism from supporters, with some demanding that Aaron Anselmino receives an opportunity after returning to training and earning an Argentina squad selection.

Emi Martinez has also resumed training earlier than expected and could challenge for a starting position. However, Moises Caicedo's absence from training has raised questions about his availability.

Should Caicedo miss the Sunderland encounter, Alonso could introduce his eighth different midfield partnership, potentially pairing Jordan Henderson with Romeo Lavia.

Estevao is expected to retain his starting position because of Joao Pedro's injury, although Alonso could still make adjustments before Sunday's important Premier League fixture.
