According to a report by BBC Sport, Arsenal have confirmed that striker Viktor Gyokeres will miss Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match against Slavia Prague after sustaining a muscle injury during the 2-0 Premier League win over Burnley.
The Swedish forward, who joined Arsenal from Sporting CP in a £64 million summer transfer, scored the opening goal at Turf Moor before being substituted at half-time. He has not trained since the match and will remain in London for further medical assessment to determine the severity of the injury.
The 27-year-old has made a strong start to his debut Premier League campaign, scoring four goals so far. His absence will be a significant blow for Arsenal as they look to maintain their perfect record in the Champions League group stage.
Manager Mikel Arteta expressed concern about the nature of Gyokeres’ injury, noting that it was unusual for the striker to suffer muscular problems. The club’s medical staff are set to carry out additional tests and scans in the coming days.
Gyokeres’ injury adds to a growing list of absentees for Arsenal, with Arteta confirming that seven players are currently unavailable. Among those sidelined are forwards Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Jesus. The mounting injuries come at a critical point in the season, with the Gunners balancing Premier League commitments and European fixtures.
Despite the setbacks, Arsenal remain top of their Champions League group, having defeated Athletic Club, Olympiacos, and Atletico Madrid in previous rounds. The trip to Prague provides an opportunity for Arteta’s squad to secure qualification for the knockout stages with a game to spare.
Arsenal have shown consistency in both domestic and European competitions this season, boasting nine consecutive victories across all fronts and seven successive clean sheets. However, the absence of several key attacking players could test the team’s depth ahead of a demanding fixture schedule in November and December.
