Final Premier League Table After The End of Matchday9

According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, November 2, 2026, Everton claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win against Newcastle United at St James' Park, with Thierno Barry emerging as the match-winner after scoring the decisive goal shortly after the beginning of the second half.

The encounter began with both sides looking to establish control, but the opening minutes produced few genuine scoring opportunities. Everton attempted to threaten through James Garner and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, while Newcastle struggled to penetrate the visitors' defensive structure.

As the first half developed, Newcastle gradually became more aggressive in their attacking approach. Joelinton had an opportunity to put the hosts ahead, but his effort went wide of the target. Dan Burn also came close with a header, although he could not direct the ball into the net. Everton subsequently threatened through Jake O'Brien, whose headed effort also failed to produce a goal.

Goalkeeping performances played an important role in keeping the score level before the break. Jordan Pickford handled Newcastle's attacking attempts confidently, while Lukas Hornicek made several important interventions to deny Everton. Consequently, both teams headed into half-time without finding the breakthrough.

Everton eventually took advantage of their opportunity four minutes after the restart. Tyrique George attempted to score with a volley from close range, but Hornicek stopped the initial effort. Barry reacted quickest to the loose ball and converted the rebound to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

Newcastle responded by committing more players forward in search of an equaliser. However, Pickford continued to frustrate the home side, producing important saves to keep out attempts from Dewsbury-Hall and O'Brien.

Anthony Elanga also had an opportunity to change the outcome, but his effort struck the post. Newcastle continued searching for a way back through Fabian Schär, Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey, but Everton maintained their defensive organisation.

The closing stages witnessed sustained pressure from Newcastle, particularly during the eight minutes of added time. Pickford made another important save against Wissa, while William Osula was unable to convert a headed chance.

Despite Newcastle's late efforts, Everton successfully protected their advantage until the final whistle. Barry's goal proved decisive, giving the visitors all three points from a difficult away fixture.
