Chelsea Are Considering A Potential Move To Bring Back Former Top Class Defender In January

According to a report by Football London on Sunday 25 October 2026, in the run-up to the January transfer window, reports have surfaced suggesting that Chelsea are contemplating a move to re-sign former defender Fikayo Tomori, with Coventry City also being mentioned as possible suitors.

The England international's future with AC Milan is now up in the air, and the Blues are among the Premier League clubs keeping tabs on him.

From his early days as an Under-8 prospect, Tomori made 27 appearances for Chelsea's first team after advancing through the academy. He began his career at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard but departed in pursuit of more playing time with the first team.

The central defender signed a permanent deal with AC Milan in the summer of 2021 after initially joining the club on loan in January.

After that, he became an integral part of the Italian club's success in Serie A, appearing in over 200 games for them.

But things have allegedly changed for Tomori, as he is now facing doubts about his future at the San Siro due to his lack of playing time.

His contract is set to expire at the end of the season, so Milan will reportedly be open to offers in January.

The defender has dressed for both of Milan's Europa League matches as of late, but he has only played six minutes of Serie A action so far this season. So, he may be able to resurrect his career with a trip back to England, where he has a better chance of getting regular football.

It is said that Chelsea is among the clubs linked with Tomori; however, if he were to return, it would make one wonder about Chelsea's current defensive choices.

The Blues have a number of center backs vying for spots on the team, and they just acquired Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.

Lampard may find a new home with Coventry City, especially considering his history with the defender.

While at Derby County, the manager worked with Tomori, and then while at Chelsea, he gave him opportunities.

It is unknown what Milan will ask for Tomori, but according to Transfermarkt, his market value is around £8.4 million.
