Liverpool told Salah replacement is not good enough

Liverpool have been warned against signing Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj Moussa as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, with pundit Kenneth Perez questioning whether the Algeria international has the quality required to succeed at an elite European club.

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, Liverpool have been linked with Hadj Moussa as they continue to assess options to strengthen their attack following Salah's departure from Anfield in the summer.

The Reds signed Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain but did not recruit a natural right winger during the transfer window.

Barcola has primarily excelled on the left and has yet to establish himself comfortably in his new role under manager Andoni Iraola.

Hadj Moussa has consequently emerged as a potential option, although Perez believes the forward still needs to improve before making the step up to a club competing at the highest level.

Speaking on Voetbalpraat, the former Denmark international highlighted the difference in pace between the Dutch Eredivisie and Europe's leading competitions.

“On Sunday, we saw the kind of speed Eredivisie players possess - take Hadj Moussa, for example,” Perez said.

He also pointed to Real Madrid's second goal as an example of the intensity required at the highest level, arguing that players must demonstrate their ability to operate at that speed before they can be considered ready for Europe's biggest clubs.

“My point is that we often assume players are ready to make the jump to the very top, but when you see the speed at that elite level, it becomes clear just how difficult that transition is.

“He possesses some extraordinary traits, but I don’t think he quite has that final piece required to play at that level. When people say: ‘He could go to City or Liverpool’ - I think that’s a very tall order.”

Hadj Moussa, 24, has enjoyed an encouraging start to the season at Feyenoord, scoring six goals in nine Eredivisie appearances. His performances have strengthened his reputation as an emerging attacking talent.

However, data analysis from SciSports suggests that moving to Liverpool could limit his opportunities for regular first-team football and potentially slow his development.

The winger, whose estimated transfer value stands at €28.2 million, possesses notable pace and stamina but would face a significant challenge adapting to the demands of a leading Premier League side.

SciSports identifies Inter Milan as a potentially better destination for Hadj Moussa, offering an alternative route to further his development.
