The football community in Spain and across the world is in a mourning mood following a sad announcement from CD Tenerife on Tuesday morning.

The LaLiga 2 club announced the passing of one of their players after an incident that happened during their league game against FC Andorra on Monday night, November 2, 2026.

According to the official statement released by the club at 8am on Tuesday, November 3, the club said they are broken with pain over the loss of their player who was part of the squad this season.

The league match between CD Tenerife and FC Andorra ended in a 2-2 draw. The game was abandoned in added time after a serious incident that required immediate medical attention on the pitch. Medical officials quickly attended to the situation and the player was taken off the pitch for further care.

During the match, the opposing goalkeeper, Carlos Ruiz, was shown a red card after the incident. The referee decided to stop the game due to the seriousness of the situation.

The club further stated that they will provide more information about funeral arrangements and tributes in the coming hours. They also asked the public and media to respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.

Following the announcement, the Spanish Football Federation announced the postponement of all Copa del Rey matches that were scheduled for Tuesday as a mark of respect for the departed player. The Federation said football is a family and this is a sad moment for everyone.

LaLiga also released a short statement sending condolences to CD Tenerife, the family, friends and teammates. Several clubs in Spain including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have sent their condolence messages on their official pages.

The club said a minute silence will be observed before their next home game and players will wear black armbands.
