According to a report by BBC Sport on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain have moved to the top of the UEFA Champions League standings after Matchday Three of the 2026/2027 league phase, following another round of notable results across Europe.
The latest fixtures featured several high-profile encounters, including Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat to Como, Barcelona’s 4-2 loss to PSG and Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich.
PSG currently lead the table with nine points after winning all three of their opening matches. Liverpool also have nine points and occupy second place, while Stuttgart are third with seven points. Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Real Betis are among the other clubs that have made encouraging starts to their European campaigns.
Arsenal remain firmly in the race for automatic qualification to the round of 16 after sharing the points with Bayern Munich. Eberechi Eze put the Gunners ahead before the German champions responded, but Declan Rice scored a late equaliser to secure a 2-2 result for Mikel Arteta’s side.
The draw leaves Arsenal with seven points from three matches, keeping them in a strong position as they pursue a place among the league phase’s top eight teams.
Barcelona, meanwhile, suffered a disappointing evening against PSG in Paris. Hansi Flick’s side conceded four goals and left without a point, leaving the Spanish champions with six points from their first three fixtures. They will now look to bounce back in their next European outing.
Manchester United also endured a difficult night after losing 4-1 to Como in Italy. Nicolás Paz played a key role in the home side’s victory, while the defeat left Michael Carrick’s team with just three points from three matches. United will need better results in their remaining games to improve their position.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid secured an impressive 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig, while Aston Villa claimed a 3-1 win against Viking. Liverpool maintained their perfect start with a dramatic 4-3 triumph over Villarreal, strengthening their position near the top of the standings.
Under the Champions League’s current league-phase format, the eight teams that finish highest qualify directly for the round of 16. Clubs finishing between ninth and 24th place must compete in knockout play-offs for a place in the next stage, while those ranked from 25th to 36th are eliminated from the competition.
With several rounds remaining, there is still plenty of opportunity for movement in the table. Arsenal will aim to build on their draw against Bayern, Barcelona must respond to their defeat in Paris, and Manchester United will be under pressure to recover from their loss to Como.
The next round of Champions League fixtures is scheduled for November 3 and 4, 2026, when the teams will have another opportunity to strengthen their positions in Europe’s premier club competition.
