According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has continued his impressive goalscoring form in Greece, recording nine goals in 15 appearances across all competitions this season as he seeks a return to Nigeria’s national team.
The forward’s recent performances could strengthen his chances of securing a place in head coach Eric Chelle’s squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.
Dessers remains among the players competing for a spot in Nigeria’s attack as Chelle prepares to select his squad for the next international assignments.
The coach is reportedly expected to include four strikers, with Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams and George Ilenikhena considered leading candidates for three of the positions.
The remaining spot could be contested by Dessers, Kelechi Iheanacho and Tolu Arokodare, who are all hoping their performances at club level will convince the coach of their suitability.
Dessers previously earned Chelle’s confidence and was named in Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations. However, injuries prevented him from participating in the tournament.
The striker has since continued to work towards regaining his place in the national team, with his performances in Greece providing a timely boost to his international ambitions.
He has scored three goals in the Greek league and added another three in the UEFA Europa Conference League proper. He has also found the net three times in the competition’s qualifying rounds, bringing his total to nine goals in 15 appearances across all competitions.
His record in front of goal could improve his chances of receiving another invitation to the Super Eagles, although he faces stiff competition from other forwards seeking to establish themselves in the squad.
With Chelle expected to announce his selection for the forthcoming qualifiers, Dessers will be hoping to maintain his scoring form and demonstrate that he deserves another opportunity to represent Nigeria on the international stage.
