Manchester United are reportedly preparing a January bid for Brighton midfielder Diego Gomez as they look to strengthen their options in the middle of the pitch.
According to a report by CaughtOffside on Friday, 23 October 2026, United have emerged as determined contenders for the Paraguayan international, although Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are also monitoring his situation.
The 23-year-old has impressed since joining Brighton from Inter Miami, with his energy, physical strength and attacking contributions attracting interest from several clubs.
Gomez recently scored a spectacular long-range goal against Crystal Palace, further demonstrating his ability to contribute in the final third.
His versatility also allows him to operate in different midfield roles, making him a potential addition to Michael Carrick's squad.
Manchester United are seeking greater dynamism and physical presence in midfield, and Gomez's ability to recover possession, carry the ball forward and support attacking transitions could suit their requirements.
However, United could face a difficult negotiation if they decide to pursue the player in the upcoming transfer window.
According to the report, Brighton could demand between €50 million and €60 million before considering a sale. The Seagulls strengthened their position by extending Gomez's contract until June 2031, giving them considerable control over his future.
Brighton are also understood to have little incentive to lose an important member of their squad midway through the season, particularly following his recent performances.
United must therefore decide whether to meet Brighton's reported valuation or consider alternative targets as they plan for January.
Arsenal's interest could add another dimension to the situation, while Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the midfielder because of his aggressive approach and tactical discipline.
Although Manchester United are reportedly considering a formal proposal, no official bid or agreement has been confirmed.
