Barcelona Starlet Breaks Sergio Ramos Champions League Record in Memorable Display vs PSG

According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Barcelona youngster Xavi Espart has broken Sergio Ramos’ Champions League record after becoming the youngest Spanish defender to score in the competition during the club’s 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes.

The 19-year-old achieved the historic feat at 19 years and 152 days, surpassing the former Real Madrid captain’s previous record of 19 years and 251 days by 99 days.

Despite Barcelona’s disappointing result against PSG, Espart’s goal marked a memorable moment in his developing career. The right-back demonstrated his attacking ability on one of European football’s biggest stages. Breaking a record previously held by Ramos is a significant achievement, considering the former Real Madrid defender’s impressive Champions League history.

Espart’s performance also provided another encouraging sign for Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy. The teenager has earned increased involvement with the first team at a crucial period for Hansi Flick’s squad. Barcelona are currently dealing with defensive injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Eric Garcia is unavailable, while Jules Kounde faces a race against time to recover before the highly anticipated encounter. These circumstances could provide Espart with another opportunity to feature prominently for the Catalan side.

Beyond his historic goal, the young defender also impressed with his defensive contributions against PSG. He handled several one-on-one situations effectively against Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue. Kvaratskhelia struggled to make an impact against the Barcelona teenager before eventually leaving the pitch with an injury.

Espart’s recent performances have increased expectations surrounding his future at the club. His composure and ability to compete against established European players suggest that he possesses considerable potential.

However, Barcelona must remain patient with his development rather than placing excessive pressure on him. Defensive consistency and experience will remain important as he continues progressing.

Surpassing Ramos represents an impressive early milestone, but Espart must maintain his development and deliver consistently as he seeks to establish himself in Barcelona’s first team.
