According to a report by OwnGoal Nigeria on Monday, October 26, 2026, Tanzania have reportedly chosen a 2pm kick-off time for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The Taifa Stars believe the conditions could pose a challenge for Nigeria, whose squad features several players based in Europe and who may be less accustomed to playing in such heat.
The report stated that the Tanzanian authorities have selected the afternoon kick-off time in preparation for the return fixture against Eric Chelle’s men, with the decision already approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the match broadcasters.
Nigeria will first host Tanzania in Uyo on November 13 before travelling to face the East African side on November 17 in the next round of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
While the Super Eagles are desperate to collect maximum points from both matches to strengthen their qualification hopes, Tanzania have already secured their place at the tournament as one of the co-hosts alongside Kenya and Uganda.
Despite their automatic qualification, the Taifa Stars are reportedly determined to win the encounter to boost their confidence and morale ahead of the continental competition.
Nigeria, meanwhile, cannot afford another setback after suffering a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their previous qualifying match on September 29.
The loss followed a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo, leaving the three-time African champions with three points from their opening two matches in Group L.
Guinea-Bissau lead the group with six points, while Madagascar and Tanzania have one point each.
However, Tanzania’s status as co-hosts means Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Madagascar are competing for the remaining qualification place from the group.
With qualification at stake, the Super Eagles will need to prepare carefully for the two encounters, particularly the return leg in Tanzania, where the afternoon heat could become an additional factor.
