According to a report by Sports Mole on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Manchester United are reportedly considering renewing their interest in Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, as Michael Carrick assesses potential attacking reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window.
The Senegal international remains undecided about signing a new contract at Selhurst Park, potentially creating an opportunity for interested clubs to pursue his signature when the transfer window reopens.
United previously targeted the 28-year-old during the summer, and his versatility could appeal to INEOS as the club explores options to strengthen multiple positions within Carrick's squad.
According to TEAMtalk, United continue monitoring Sarr because he has yet to accept Palace's contract extension offer, despite his representatives reportedly being satisfied with the proposed agreement.
Sarr wanted to leave Palace during the summer, attracting interest from Galatasaray. However, the Eagles rejected the Turkish club's approach before reintegrating the winger into their first-team plans.
Sunderland and Newcastle United have also reportedly expressed interest, while potential moves to Turkey or the Saudi Pro League could offer alternative destinations should negotiations over his future remain unresolved.
Palace are under little pressure to sell because Sarr's existing contract runs until 2028. They reportedly demanded £50m during the summer, rejecting Galatasaray's initial offer and potentially setting a substantial asking price.
United reportedly consider Sarr an appealing option because he can operate across different attacking positions. His performances for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup further demonstrated his ability to play centrally.
United need additional attacking options, and Sarr could provide solutions beyond strengthening their wide positions. His pace and direct approach would offer Carrick another option when attacking opposing defences.
The Senegalese winger can also operate centrally, potentially providing cover behind Bruno Fernandes. United have frequently depended on their captain creatively, sometimes deploying him on the right flank to accommodate tactical requirements.
Recent injury problems have highlighted United's need for greater squad depth, with several players unavailable for Wednesday's Champions League meeting against Como, including Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven, Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro.
Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko are also unavailable for the Como fixture, further highlighting United's selection difficulties. Although Sarr cannot address defensive shortages, his versatility could ease pressure on attacking teammates.
If Sarr rejects Palace's contract extension, United could reconsider pursuing him during January. However, the winger's decision, Palace's willingness to negotiate and the reported £50m valuation will determine whether a transfer becomes realistic.
