According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday October 30, 2026, young goalkeeper Iker Rodriguez has signed a new three-year contract with Barcelona that will keep him with the club until June 2029, as the club has officially announced.
To ensure the youngster's long-term future with the Catalan giants, the agreement contains an option to extend his stay for another two seasons.
Rodriguez has spent a considerable amount of time honing his skills at Barcelona's world-famous La Masia academy, and he has slowly but surely become a promising future player for the club.
In 2024, at the tender age of 16, he had the chance to train with Barcelona's senior squad, thanks to the early notice of his potential.
The teen goalkeeper has since made rare appearances in first team training sessions, but he has not yet made his senior team debut in a competitive match.
Initially projected to play third-string goalkeeper for Barcelona in the 2026–27 season, the youngster finished the entire preseason program under manager Hansi Flick.
But those plans were thwarted when Dominik Livakovic arrived, so Rodriguez went back to Barcelona Atletic to keep improving.
He has taken advantage of the chance and shown great improvement in goal, putting up stellar performances for the reserve squad.
In eight games for Barcelona, Rodriguez has kept five clean sheets. In that remarkable streak, Atletic allowed just four goals.
The belief that he has what it takes to become an important goalkeeper for Barcelona in the future has been further reinforced by his performances.
After multiple clubs supposedly showed interest in signing him during the summer, contract extension negotiations have been going strong for a while.
However, the player and Barcelona were adamant about maintaining their relationship, and they ultimately came to an agreement that extends his stay with the club until 2029.
Rodriguez will have plenty of time to grow into a starting role for the first team thanks to the new contract, which is a big deal for Barcelona as they try to hold on to their promising academy prospects.
