According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria on Friday, October 16, 2026, Super Eagles match winner Moses Usor is in a race to regain fitness ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Tanzania after missing LASK’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old forward impressed on his international debut, scoring a brilliant solo goal to help Nigeria secure a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in their opening AFCON qualifying match.
Usor’s performance earned him a place in the squad for the subsequent fixtures against Guinea-Bissau and the upcoming double-header against Tanzania in November.
However, the forward was unable to reproduce his match-winning performance against Guinea-Bissau, as the Super Eagles suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat in their second qualifying match.
Despite that setback, Usor remained in contention for the November fixtures until the shoulder injury ruled him out of LASK’s 6-3 defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.
According to the report, the injury has raised concerns about his availability for Nigeria’s upcoming matches, with his chances of returning depending on how quickly he recovers in the coming days.
The report added that Usor would not require surgery, although his recovery timeline could affect his availability when Nigeria host Tanzania in Uyo next month.
His potential absence would be a setback for head coach Eric Chelle, who will be looking to strengthen his attacking options as the Super Eagles seek to improve their results in the AFCON qualifiers.
Nigeria will hope Usor recovers in time to feature against Tanzania as they continue their campaign to secure a place at the 2027 AFCON finals.
