According to a report by Metro on Thursday November 5, 2026, Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes Chelsea youngster Estevao could give manager Xabi Alonso a difficult decision when selecting his attacking lineup later this season.
Alonso previously faced criticism for leaving the Brazilian winger on the bench during Chelsea's Carabao Cup defeat against Liverpool last week, with reports suggesting the teenager was unhappy about his limited playing opportunities.
However, Estevao finally received his first Premier League start of the campaign against Manchester United last Saturday and delivered an impressive performance in Chelsea's convincing 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.
Gerrard was particularly impressed with the 19-year-old's attacking qualities, praising his confidence, creativity and willingness to take on defenders rather than constantly searching for additional passes.
Speaking on The Overlap, the former England international described Estevao as an exciting footballer, saying: “He's exciting. He's great to watch.”
Gerrard also highlighted the winger's Brazilian flair and technical ability, while particularly appreciating his direct approach and determination to test opposition goalkeepers whenever opportunities arise.
He compared Estevao's attacking mentality with Liverpool's forward players, suggesting that some of them sometimes hesitate to shoot because they prefer finding an additional pass or creating a perfect opportunity.
Gerrard specifically praised an attacking move against Manchester United in which Estevao combined with a teammate before producing an effort that required an excellent save from the opposition goalkeeper.
He also recalled another opportunity when the youngster could have slowed the attack and passed towards the edge of the penalty area but instead showed his determination to score.
According to Gerrard, Estevao's eagerness demonstrates how determined he is to impress Alonso and establish himself as an important member of Chelsea's first team.
However, the former Liverpool midfielder believes the youngster's impressive performance could create a significant selection headache when Joao Pedro returns from injury.
With Pedro Neto also competing for an attacking position, Alonso will have several quality options available, making it difficult to accommodate everybody in his preferred attacking lineup.
Gerrard concluded that Estevao has strengthened his chances of receiving more opportunities, insisting his performance against Manchester United has given Alonso plenty to consider when making future selection decisions.
