Deco Set to Scout €60m Aston Villa Midfielder as Barcelona Consider Transfer Move

According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Barcelona sporting director Deco is expected to monitor Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi during their Champions League meeting on Tuesday, as the Catalan club reportedly considers him a potential transfer target.

The 21-year-old has impressed Barcelona's sporting department with his performances, according to Spanish newspaper SPORT. However, signing the midfielder could require a significant financial investment.

Manzambi has enjoyed an impressive start to the season, recording three goals and four assists in eight appearances. His recent form has seen him average a goal contribution every 70 minutes.

Deco will have an opportunity to assess the midfielder closely when Aston Villa visit the Spotify Camp Nou. Barcelona are continuing to evaluate potential additions as they plan for future transfer windows.

Manzambi's development has attracted interest from several European clubs, particularly following his breakthrough season at German side Freiburg, where he established himself as one of Europe's most promising young midfielders.

The Switzerland international enjoyed an impressive campaign, contributing seven goals and nine assists. His performances also earned him UEFA's Europa League Revelation of the Season award for the 2025–26 campaign.

He further demonstrated his quality on the international stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helping Switzerland with three goals and an assist.

Barcelona's growing interest in the midfielder has been strengthened by his consistent performances in the Premier League. Tuesday's Champions League encounter will therefore provide Deco with an opportunity to watch him closely.

Aston Villa signed Manzambi from Freiburg in 2026 for a reported fee of around €60 million, with additional payments potentially increasing the overall cost of the deal.

Given the size of that investment and the length of his contract, Villa are unlikely to consider allowing him to leave. His importance to the team has also increased following his impressive contributions this season.

If Barcelona decide to make a formal approach, Manzambi's performances could give Aston Villa a stronger negotiating position. The midfielder's potential transfer fee means the Catalan club would need to commit considerable financial resources to secure his services.
