Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen as they consider potential long-term replacements for Thibaut Courtois.
According to a report by Madrid Universal on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Spanish giants have identified the 24-year-old Dutch international as a possible candidate to succeed Courtois, whose current contract is scheduled to expire in 2027.
Verbruggen has attracted attention with his performances in the Premier League, particularly his recent display against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The Brighton goalkeeper produced seven saves on October 31 to help his side secure an impressive 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola's team. His performance proved decisive as City created several opportunities but failed to find a way past him.
The display further highlighted his ability to perform under pressure against top opposition. His reflexes, positioning and composure have made him an increasingly important figure at Brighton.
Verbruggen joined the Seagulls from Belgian club Anderlecht in 2023 and has gradually established himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper. His development has also earned him regular opportunities with the Netherlands national team.
Real Madrid are understood to be monitoring several aspects of his game, including his shot-stopping ability, distribution and confidence in possession.
These qualities could make him an attractive option for the Spanish club, who traditionally expect their goalkeepers to contribute to both defensive duties and the build-up of attacks.
Meanwhile, Courtois remains Madrid's first-choice goalkeeper at 34 and continues to play an important role in the squad managed by Jose Mourinho.
The Belgian has maintained his importance since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu, but his contract situation means the club must consider its options for the future.
Although discussions over a possible extension are reportedly ongoing, Madrid are keeping alternative candidates under consideration as part of their long-term planning.
There is currently no indication that Madrid have made a formal approach for Verbruggen or are preparing an immediate transfer.
However, his impressive performances for Brighton have reportedly placed him on the Spanish club's radar as they begin assessing their goalkeeping options beyond Courtois.
