According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Brighton & Hove Albion recorded a convincing 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League, scoring three goals within the opening 10 minutes to strengthen their position in the race for the top places.
The result gave Brighton a fourth consecutive league win and extended their winning streak across all competitions to six matches, following their midweek success against Kauno Zalgiris.
Brighton needed just four minutes to take the lead at the Amex Stadium. Pascal Gross delivered an inswinging free-kick into the penalty area, and Crystal Palace defender Jaydee Canvot inadvertently directed the ball into his own net.
The hosts doubled their advantage three minutes later through Diego Gomez. The midfielder collected possession around the halfway line before unleashing an extraordinary effort from approximately 55 yards, catching goalkeeper Walter Benitez off his line and sending the ball into the net.
Crystal Palace struggled to contain Brighton's attacking pressure, and the home side added a third goal in the 10th minute. Charalampos Kostoulas produced an intelligent back-heel inside the penalty area, allowing Yasin Ayari to finish into the bottom corner.
Brighton continued to dominate as the first half progressed. Gomez saw a volley blocked by Honest Ahanor, while Benitez prevented Ferdi Kadioglu from increasing the lead with a powerful effort.
The Seagulls maintained their attacking intensity after the restart and scored their fourth goal through Kostoulas. The Greek teenager reacted inside the penalty area to finish from close range after Ayari's initial attempt had been blocked.
Palace attempted to respond, but substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta missed a significant opportunity to reduce the deficit when his effort struck the crossbar despite being well-positioned inside the box.
The visitors came close again in the closing stages when Jefferson Lerma directed a header against the post from Daichi Kamada's corner, leaving Palace unable to find a consolation goal.
Brighton completed the emphatic victory with a fifth goal through Jack Hinshelwood. The midfielder reacted quickest to a rebound and struck the ball into the net from close range to seal the result.
The victory lifted Brighton to second place in the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal's visit to Nottingham Forest later on Sunday, while Crystal Palace dropped to 14th.
