EPL: Manchester United Star Wins Player Of The Match Award After His Superb Display

According to a report by Flashscore on Sunday, October 18, 2026, in a Premier League match at Elland Road, Leeds United rallied from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Manchester United. Youri Tielemans, who was named Player of the Match, was instrumental in the visitors' first goal.

Leeds extended their unbeaten home Premier League run to eight matches with a point thanks to an equalizer from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who had earlier given Manchester United the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the 35th minute.

In the first twenty minutes of the match, both teams started off strong, with physical challenges leading to multiple yellow cards. The first half began with few clear scoring opportunities, but both teams began to create more and more as the half went on.

Anton Stach sent a pinpoint cross into the penalty area, where Nico Elvedi was waiting to make Leeds' first move. Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens reacted swiftly to push the ball away as the defender, who was left unmarked six yards from goal, directed a downward header toward the target.

Tielemans produced a risky cross that discovered Mbeumo unmarked inside the box, and the visitors responded almost instantly. The Cameroon international had a great opportunity to score, but he missed the target with his header.

After missing the target in the 35th minute, Mbeumo managed to recover. United took the lead when the forward made a shrewd run to get in behind James Justin inside the penalty area. He then finished off another pinpoint pass from Tielemans by heading the ball into the corner.

After halftime, Leeds came out firing in the second half, and they scored just six minutes into the stanza. The ball was sent dangerously wide by Tarik Muharemovic, but Calvert-Lewin was the first to react, and he swept it home to level the score.

Hosts Ao Tanaka and Stach kept trying to find a victor, but nobody was able to get close. Bruno Fernandes had a golden opportunity for Manchester United to take the lead when he was given space to shoot, but he narrowly missed the target.

United manager Michael Carrick tried to inject more attacking energy by bringing on Matheus Cunha, but the substitution did not lead to a clear advantage until the final whistle.

Manchester United lost their first away Premier League match of the season, while Leeds' unbeaten home streak reached eight games with the draw. Additionally, the away team extended their unblemished head-to-head record at Elland Road to eight matches, which they maintained.

After setting up a major attacking opportunity earlier in the game and assisting on Mbeumo's first goal, Tielemans was selected as Manchester United's Player of the Match according to Flashscore.
