EPL Table After Arsenal's Hard-Fought 1-0 Win

According to a report by The Guardian on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Arsenal kept their Premier League title ambitions on track with a narrow 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, moving within three points of leaders Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta’s men travelled to Nottingham aware of the importance of collecting all three points after Manchester City extended their winning streak with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday.

However, Arsenal encountered a stubborn Forest side that defended with discipline and made it difficult for the visitors to create clear scoring opportunities. Despite enjoying spells of possession, the Gunners were unable to find a breakthrough before half-time, with the score remaining goalless.

The contest continued in a similar fashion after the restart, as Forest worked hard to contain Arsenal’s attacking threat. The visitors eventually found a way through in the 80th minute when Noni Madueke scored with a deflected shot that beat goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Madueke’s strike proved enough to settle the encounter, with Arsenal defending their advantage during the closing stages to secure a valuable away victory.

The result leaves Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with 21 points from seven matches, having won every game so far this season. Arsenal remain second on 18 points, having recorded six wins and one defeat from their opening seven fixtures.

Brighton and Hove Albion occupy third place with 16 points after recording a convincing 5-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday. Chelsea are fourth with 13 points following their 2-0 victory against Everton, while Liverpool sit fifth on 12 points after coming from behind to beat Brentford 2-1.

Brentford, Leeds United and Everton are among the clubs looking to strengthen their positions in the upper half of the standings as the campaign progresses.

Manchester United, meanwhile, remain in the bottom half after being held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road. Their continued struggle to secure victories has left them needing a stronger run of results.

Nottingham Forest’s latest defeat adds to the pressure on the club, while Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur are also seeking improved performances to move away from the lower reaches of the table.

Although Arsenal were unable to dominate the match in attack, their ability to secure a result against a determined opponent could prove significant in a closely contested title race. The victory ensures they remain within touching distance of Manchester City as they look to challenge for the league crown.

Arsenal will next turn their attention to Everton, while Manchester City prepare to face Aston Villa. Both sides will be looking to maintain their momentum as the battle for the Premier League title continues.
