According to a report by Football London on Sunday, October 18, 2026, six players are out with injuries after Wednesday's 2-0 Premier League win over Everton, adding more uncertainty to Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso's injury situation.
Reece James, Emi Martinez, Emmanuel Emegha, Jamie Gittens, Pep Chavarria, and Malo Gusto are all experiencing health issues, which is a further setback for the Blues.
Following surgery to repair a knee injury, James will likely miss a few months of action.
According to reports, the Chelsea captain may be out for up to three months, which could mean he misses as many as seventeen matches. He hasn't played since the draw with Hull City.
After hurting his jaw in Saturday's win over Everton, Martinez becomes the newest player to go on the injury list. The Argentine goalkeeper is expected to be out for a few weeks after a successful surgery.
He may not be able to play in Chelsea's next six matches as his recovery could take around 40 days, according to reports.
While he heals from a muscle injury, Emegha is also out of commission. The 23-year-old from the Netherlands did not make his competitive debut for Chelsea despite joining the club from Strasbourg for £23 million. The striker's return is still a few weeks away, as Alonso recently confirmed.
The Chelsea manager also has concerns about Gittens. The winger was later seen using crutches after injuring his ankle while playing for England's Under-21 squad.
Despite initial predictions of a few weeks of rest, new information indicates he may be out for much longer.
Chavarria was ruled out of the Everton match due to an injury he sustained just before the start of the game. It is unclear whether the defender will be available to play against Liverpool after Alonso announced that he would undergo medical tests to assess the severity of the injury.
Meanwhile, Gusto was sidelined with a virus and missed the match against Everton. With Josh Acheampong maintaining his strong form and Pedro Neto making waves at wing-back, his situation is looking less dire.
Keeping their momentum while dealing with an ever-increasing injury list is Chelsea's first priority.
