According to a report by Football London on Monday, November 2, 2026, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer both found the back of the net in Chelsea’s victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, sparking discussions about which of the two midfielders will record more goals and assists before the end of the season.
Rogers gave Chelsea the lead after producing an impressive solo run before finishing confidently. The England international had previously disclosed that teammate Joao Pedro encouraged him to practise chipped finishes during training, a technique that proved useful during the match.
Palmer later increased Chelsea’s advantage by converting a penalty, despite Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens getting both hands to the ball. The two players have now recorded six Premier League goal contributions each.
However, Rogers currently has the advantage across all competitions, having scored six goals and provided four assists in 12 appearances. His 10 contributions are already equal to Mason Mount’s total during his 80 appearances for Manchester United.
In the Premier League, Rogers has registered five goals and one assist in nine matches. Palmer, on the other hand, has scored three goals and provided three assists, taking his overall league contributions to six.
With Chelsea preparing for their next fixture against Sunderland, Rogers was asked about the friendly competition between himself and Palmer and which player he believes will finish the campaign with better numbers.
Responding to the Premier League's social media account, Rogers played down the individual contest, saying he was more interested in helping Chelsea win matches than finishing ahead of his teammate.
The statistics show how closely matched both players are, with each having played between 790 and 800 minutes in the Premier League this season. However, Palmer’s responsibility as Chelsea’s penalty taker could give him an advantage in the race.
Rogers currently has a slightly higher expected goals figure of 2.41 compared to Palmer’s 2.40. He also leads in expected assists, with 1.44 against Palmer’s 1.07.
Despite this, Palmer has been more productive in creating opportunities, recording 20 chances created compared to Rogers’ 17. He has also created six big chances, while Rogers has managed two.
Although Rogers has enjoyed an impressive run of performances, Palmer’s penalty-taking responsibilities could prove decisive, potentially giving the England international a narrow advantage in the battle for the highest goal contributions by the end of the season.
