EPL: Super Eagles Star Bags Player of the Match Award After Scoring Match-Winning Goal for Fulham

According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Fulham secured their first Premier League victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Hull City at Craven Cottage, with Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi being named Player of the Match following his decisive first-half goal.

Fulham entered the seventh round of fixtures under pressure after failing to win any of their opening six league matches. The victory provided a significant boost for Alvaro Arbeloa's side, who were determined to end their difficult start to the campaign in front of their home supporters.

The hosts began brightly and nearly took the lead inside the opening three minutes when Iwobi attempted a shot that deflected narrowly over the crossbar. Fulham continued to dominate the early exchanges, forcing Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis into action.

Tzolakis spilled Oscar Bobb's free-kick but recovered as Fulham maintained their attacking pressure. The breakthrough eventually arrived when Sander Berge laid the ball off to Iwobi on the edge of the penalty area.

The Nigerian midfielder struck the ball first-time, sending his effort into the bottom corner to give Fulham a deserved lead. The goal rewarded the hosts' positive start and put Iwobi at the centre of their push for three points.

Fulham continued to threaten before the interval, with Tzolakis producing an important save with his leg to deny Josh King from a tight angle. Hull managed to keep the deficit at one goal heading into the second half.

King had another opportunity to extend Fulham's advantage after being played into a promising position, but Tzolakis again used his leg to prevent the striker from scoring.

Iwobi remained influential in the attacking third and tested the Hull goalkeeper from close range after poking the ball towards goal. The midfielder then delivered an inviting cross for Gonzalo Garcia, whose header struck the crossbar.

Despite Fulham's efforts to secure a second goal, Hull remained within reach of an equaliser. However, the visitors struggled to create clear opportunities and failed to register a shot on target throughout the contest.

Fulham also had to negotiate a late setback when Ryan Sessegnon was sent off, but they held on to claim all three points.

The result ended Fulham's winless start after six league matches and extended their winning run against Hull to five consecutive head-to-head meetings, while the visitors' winless league run reached five matches.

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi was named Player of the Match after scoring the decisive goal and delivering an influential performance for Fulham.
