Michael Carrick: Man Utd Manager on Brink of Sack After Bournemouth Thrashing

According to a report by The Sun on Sunday October 25, 2026, Michael Carrick is facing growing uncertainty over his future as Manchester United manager after his side suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

The disappointing result reportedly extended United’s winless run to eight matches in all competitions, increasing pressure on Carrick as the club struggles to turn its season around.

Bournemouth took the lead through Rayan in the 38th minute before Marcus Tavernier doubled the advantage just five minutes later. Evanilson then added a third in the second half to complete a miserable afternoon for the hosts.

The defeat left United supporters frustrated, with questions mounting over the team’s performances and the club’s overall direction. Despite the pressure, some fans continued to show their support for Carrick because of his long-standing connection with the club.

Speaking after the match, Carrick accepted responsibility for United’s poor results but admitted he did not have an immediate answer for the team’s struggles.

“I take the responsibility,” he said, adding that he was not expecting anything regarding his future and would continue to do what was best for Manchester United.

The situation has also been complicated by tensions involving captain Bruno Fernandes. The midfielder was left on the bench throughout the Bournemouth game after reportedly criticising Carrick’s tactics following United’s 4-1 defeat to Como in midweek.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher suggested that Carrick’s decision not to introduce Fernandes may have been deliberate, although the manager has not confirmed that interpretation.

Former United midfielder Gary Neville, meanwhile, expressed concern about the club’s situation, arguing that the problems extend beyond the head coach.

With pressure continuing to build, several names have reportedly emerged as potential replacements should United decide to make a managerial change. Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann and Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler have all been linked with the position.
