According to a report by Madrid Universal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Eduardo Camavinga’s position at Real Madrid has reportedly failed to improve despite his encouraging performances for France during the recent international break.
The midfielder had hoped his involvement with the national team would help him return to the Spanish capital with renewed confidence and strengthen his chances of securing regular playing time under Jose Mourinho. However, his situation at club level remains difficult as competition for places in midfield continues to increase.
Camavinga was given an opportunity to impress during the international break after being selected for France’s squad by Zinedine Zidane. The 23-year-old reportedly played 204 minutes across four matches, including starting roles in victories over Belgium.
His involvement appeared to offer an opportunity to rebuild his confidence and demonstrate his quality ahead of Real Madrid’s return to domestic and European action.
However, the improvement has not translated into a more prominent role at the Santiago Bernabeu. Before the international break, Camavinga had started only two of Madrid’s opening seven matches, and his struggles for minutes have reportedly continued since returning from international duty.
According to the report, the French international has played just 25 minutes across his last three appearances, underlining the challenge he faces in breaking into Mourinho’s preferred midfield lineup.
The competition is particularly intense, with Federico Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Arda Güler, Jude Bellingham and Bernardo Silva among the players competing for places. Their presence has made it increasingly difficult for Camavinga to establish himself as a regular starter.
Despite possessing considerable energy, technical ability and defensive awareness, the Frenchman has struggled to secure a consistent role. His versatility allows him to operate in different midfield positions, but he will need to convince Mourinho that he deserves greater responsibility.
The situation could eventually raise questions about his long-term future at Real Madrid, particularly if the club pursues further midfield reinforcements in upcoming transfer windows.
Camavinga was reportedly reluctant to leave Madrid last summer. However, if his playing time remains limited, he could be forced to reconsider his options during the January transfer window or at the end of the season.
Nevertheless, the midfielder still has an opportunity to change the situation through his performances in training and whenever he receives minutes on the pitch. Consistent displays could help him regain Mourinho’s confidence and strengthen his position within the squad.
