FEN 3-2 LIV: Match Review And Updated UEFA Champions League Table

According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Fenerbahce produced an impressive performance to defeat Liverpool 3-2 in their UEFA Champions League league-phase encounter, ending the English side's perfect record in this season's competition.

The Turkish giants recovered from falling behind twice before securing a dramatic victory, with substitute Vedat Muriqi scoring the decisive goal to hand Dirk Kuyt's team a memorable result against his former club.

Liverpool started the encounter positively despite the difficult weather conditions, creating early opportunities through Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola.

The visitors continued to apply pressure and eventually took the lead through Trey Nyoni, who found the back of the net with a volley to register his first senior career goal.

Fenerbahce responded quickly and nearly equalised when Irfan Kahveci struck the crossbar with an attempt from a dangerous delivery.

However, the home side eventually restored parity after Mason Greenwood's free-kick took a deflection off Jeremy Jacquet in the Liverpool defensive wall, leaving goalkeeper Alisson unable to prevent the ball from entering the net.

Greenwood continued to threaten before half-time, forcing another important save from the Brazilian goalkeeper as Fenerbahce searched for a second goal.

Liverpool returned for the second half determined to regain control, with Ederson producing an excellent save to deny Barcola before stopping Virgil van Dijk's attempt from the resulting corner.

Munoz also came close to putting the visitors ahead, but his effort was blocked by Milan Skriniar. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola subsequently introduced fresh attacking options, and the decision produced an immediate impact.

Cody Gakpo delivered an excellent cross into the penalty area, allowing Alexander Isak to rise above the Fenerbahce defence and head home his first Champions League goal for Liverpool with his first touch of the match.

However, Fenerbahce refused to surrender and equalised again through Archie Brown, who capitalised on a corner that was inadvertently flicked on by Gakpo before finishing from close range at the far post.

The hosts completed their comeback when substitute Vedat Muriqi rose above Jacquet to head the ball beyond Alisson and give Fenerbahce a 3-2 advantage.

Liverpool were unable to find another equaliser as the Turkish side held on to claim all three points. The result ended Fenerbahce's 10-match winless run in the Champions League proper, while Liverpool's disappointing record away to Turkish opposition continued.
