Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that Manchester United's chances of signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres remain uncertain.
Gyokeres is one of the most sought-after forwards in the upcoming transfer window, with top Premier League sides like Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea showing strong interest.
Although recent reports suggest United may be leading the race, Romano has cautioned that financial constraints—especially those related to Financial Fair Play—could limit their ability to secure the Swedish striker. He emphasized that no decision has been made yet and that both United and Arsenal remain in the mix.
To fund a big move like this, United may need to win the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League and also generate income through player sales. Gyokeres currently has a €100 million release clause in his contract with Sporting, making him an expensive target.
With United struggling for goals this season and underwhelming performances from current strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, the club is actively searching for a high-profile forward. Alongside Gyokeres, names like Victor Osimhen, Liam Delap, and Benjamin Sesko have also been linked.
Gyokeres is enjoying a sensational season, having scored an astonishing 52 goals in 48 matches. This builds on his outstanding previous campaign, where he netted 43 goals. He is widely expected to leave Sporting at the end of the current season to take the next step in his career.
