According to a report by Metro on November 2, 2026, Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie has taken a subtle dig at Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk following the Gunners' 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Kai Havertz scored the only goal of an entertaining Premier League encounter as Mikel Arteta's side secured all three points on Merseyside. The victory strengthened Arsenal's position at the top of the Premier League table, while Liverpool remained fifth after another disappointing result.
However, the talking point after the final whistle was Hincapie's apparent response to Van Dijk, who had previously made a similar gesture following the meeting between the two clubs in January.
Following Arsenal's victory, the Ecuadorian defender shared three pictures from the match on his Instagram account, accompanied by the caption: "I don't forget…"
Interestingly, the final picture showed a close-up of the gold Premier League badge on the sleeve of Arsenal's shirt.
The gold badge is traditionally worn by the reigning Premier League champions, meaning Hincapie's post appeared to carry a message directed at Van Dijk.
The gesture was reportedly a response to the Liverpool captain's own social media post in January, when he shared a picture highlighting the same gold Premier League badge after a goalless draw between Liverpool and Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
At the time, Liverpool were the defending Premier League champions, and Van Dijk's post was interpreted as a subtle reminder of their status.
However, following Arsenal's victory on Sunday, Hincapie appeared to turn the gesture around by highlighting the fact that the Gunners are now the reigning champions.
Meanwhile, Arsenal's victory was another important result in their Premier League campaign. The North London club moved three points clear of Manchester City after recording their eighth victory in nine league matches.
Their defensive performances have also been impressive, with just five goals conceded in their opening nine Premier League fixtures. Their only defeat during that period came against Brighton, when they conceded three goals.
Liverpool, meanwhile, struggled to create clear opportunities against Arsenal, failing to register a single shot on target throughout the encounter.
Speaking after the match, Arteta praised the collective defensive contribution of his players, particularly after learning that goalkeeper David Raya had not been required to make a save.
The Arsenal manager described the statistic as remarkable, explaining that every player had contributed to preventing Liverpool from creating dangerous shooting opportunities.
