Chelsea Join Galatasaray in Race to Sign €45m Premier League Top Class Midfielder in January

According to a report by Football London on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Chelsea are competing with Galatasaray for the signature of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yasin Ayari, whose future has become uncertain amid stalled negotiations over a new contract.

The 23-year-old Sweden international has established himself as an important member of Fabian Hurzeler’s squad, attracting attention from several clubs as they assess potential transfer opportunities ahead of the coming windows.

Ayari’s current contract is reportedly due to expire at the end of the season, although Brighton have the option to extend his stay by another 12 months. However, the club have yet to exercise that option, despite expectations from the midfielder’s representatives.

Talks over an improved contract reportedly began before the summer but have encountered difficulties, leaving Ayari’s long-term future unresolved. Chelsea are among the clubs monitoring the situation as they consider ways to strengthen their midfield options.

One factor that could benefit the Blues is Ayari’s connection with sporting director Paul Winstanley. Before joining Chelsea, Winstanley worked as Brighton’s head of scouting and was involved in identifying the midfielder’s potential. His previous experience at the Amex Stadium could give Chelsea valuable insight into Ayari’s qualities and development.

Chelsea have also developed a strong transfer relationship with Brighton in recent years, recruiting players such as Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro. These dealings underline the established connections between the two clubs, although any potential move for Ayari would depend on Brighton’s position and the player’s contractual circumstances.

Nevertheless, Chelsea could face significant competition for the midfielder, with several Premier League clubs reportedly keeping track of his situation. Interest from overseas could further complicate the race if Brighton remain unable to reach an agreement over an extension.

Galatasaray are among the leading reported contenders, having considered signing Ayari during the previous summer transfer window. The Turkish giants are continuing to monitor developments in the hope that the uncertainty surrounding his contract could create an opportunity to secure his services.

The Istanbul-based club have also been linked with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, but Ayari could represent a younger alternative as they evaluate potential midfield reinforcements.

Saudi Pro League clubs have reportedly made enquiries about the Swedish international as well, highlighting the growing interest in his services following his performances in English football.

Ayari has registered two assists in Brighton’s opening six league matches, contributing to the team’s encouraging start under Hurzeler. His creativity, technical ability and involvement in attacking moves have helped establish him as a valuable member of the squad.

Brighton, meanwhile, will be keen to retain a player who remains important to their plans as they pursue their ambitions in the Premier League. Losing him would represent a potential setback, particularly if interest from rival clubs intensifies.

Activating the additional 12-month option could strengthen Brighton’s negotiating position, but the club must also consider whether a new long-term agreement can be reached.

For now, Chelsea and Galatasaray are monitoring the situation, with Ayari’s future likely to depend on the outcome of Brighton’s contract discussions. If negotiations continue to stall, the midfielder could attract even greater interest as the next transfer window approaches.
