According to the Premier League official Instagram page, published on October 19, 2026, Nigerian footballers have received recognition in a special tribute celebrating the country’s contribution to English football, with a graphic highlighting 61 players.
The league shared the artwork on social media, featuring a collage of footballers wearing the shirts of different Premier League clubs. The design also displayed the Nigerian flag and the No Room for Racism logo.
Through the post, the Premier League acknowledged the qualities Nigerian players bring to the competition, praising their flair, strength and commitment on the pitch. The message concluded with the words “Greatness comes from everywhere,” accompanied by a Nigerian flag emoji.
The tribute attracted considerable attention from social media users. At the time the figures were recorded, the post had received more than 26,900 likes and approximately 594 comments.
Nigerian footballers have represented several clubs in the English top flight over the years. Among the players who have featured in the competition are former stars such as Nwankwo Kanu, Jay-Jay Okocha and John Obi Mikel, alongside more recent players including Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi.
The Premier League has previously highlighted the achievements of Nigerian players. In an article published in May 2020, the competition noted that Nigeria had produced more Premier League players than any other African country at that time.
However, the latest graphic does not identify all 61 footballers or explain the criteria used to calculate the figure. A complete list from the league would help clarify which players were included in the tribute.
The recognition highlights the presence of Nigerian talent in English football and gives fans an opportunity to reflect on the players who have represented the country in one of the world’s most followed domestic competitions.
