According to a report by Football London on November 6, 2026, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided an injury update on Moisés Caicedo ahead of the club’s upcoming Premier League clash against Sunderland.
The Ecuadorian midfielder is a doubt for the fixture after experiencing discomfort following Chelsea’s last game. His availability will depend on how he responds before the team makes a final decision.
Speaking about Caicedo’s condition, Alonso explained that the midfielder had experienced some problems after the previous match and that the medical staff would need to assess him again.
“He had little problems after the last game. We will check tomorrow. It’s a discomfort, more than the previous issue with his calf,” the Chelsea manager said.
The comments suggest that Chelsea are taking a cautious approach rather than rushing the midfielder back into action. Alonso will want to establish whether Caicedo is fit enough to feature without risking further problems.
Caicedo remains an important figure in Chelsea’s midfield because of his ability to win possession, protect the defence and help the team move the ball forward. His energy and defensive contributions make him a valuable player in Alonso’s system.
The 24-year-old joined Chelsea from Brighton in August 2023 in a deal worth up to £115 million, including performance-related add-ons. The transfer made him one of the most expensive signings in Premier League history.
His possible absence would therefore be a concern for Alonso, particularly with Chelsea preparing for another important league fixture. However, the manager will not want to make a decision until Caicedo has been assessed again.
