Maxence Lacroix’s Injury History Should Have Chelsea Fans And Xabi Alonso Really Concerned

According to a report by The Chelsea Chronicles on Thursday October 29, 2026, speculation regarding Chelsea defender Maxence Lacroix's availability for forthcoming matches arose after he appeared to injure his hamstring during Wednesday's Carabao Cup match against Liverpool at Anfield.

The French center back hobbled off the field in pain after a late-first-half stumble, grabbing his hamstring as he went. His response indicated that he might be sidelined for some time due to the issue.

Given Lacroix's remarkable fitness record, his injury is all the more worrisome. The defender has been a rock for Crystal Palace since his arrival, showing up for every game and rarely missing a beat due to injury.

In two seasons with Crystal Palace, Lacroix appeared in 98 of 105 matches (as reported by Transfermarkt). His remarkable availability and significance during that time were underscored by the fact that his remaining absences were due to rest or suspension.

Lacroix missed 28 games out of 130 for Wolfsburg before making the move to England. Serious health issues have seldom derailed his career, though, as only six of his absences were due to illness or injury.

Injuries such as muscular tiredness, a case of COVID-19, and a shoulder issue toward the season's end in 2022–23 are on his record. He missed 71 days of action due to a shoulder injury, the majority of which happened during preseason.

The onus is now on Chelsea to ascertain whether this most recent setback is an isolated incident or the start of ongoing fitness concerns. The severity of the injury and the time required for recovery can be better understood with the help of medical evaluations and imaging studies.

The duration of Lacroix's potential absence has not been confirmed by manager Xabi Alonso. But, with his consistent performances since arriving at Stamford Bridge, losing the £52 million summer signing would be a major disappointment.

With more consistency than Levi Colwill, Lacroix has been Chelsea's most reliable defender this year. Alonso faces tough decisions ahead of crucial Premier League matches as the club prepares for his possible absence.

Among the available alternatives, such as Josh Acheampong and Jorrel Hato, Colwill could take on more responsibility. However, Chelsea's defensive department is facing a more complicated situation due to Wesley Fofana's inconsistent performances.

The defensive stability of Chelsea is at risk if Lacroix is ruled out with Manchester United and Sunderland on the horizon. Hopefully, Alonso's dependable defender will be able to return quickly and help restore consistency, so he can celebrate if the injury turns out to be minor.
