According to a report by Football London on Friday October 23, 2026, Alex Iwobi has played alongside several outstanding footballers during his career, but one former Arsenal teammate stands above the rest in his opinion: Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla.
Iwobi made nearly 150 appearances for Arsenal before leaving the club. He subsequently represented Everton and now plays for Fulham, sharing dressing rooms with numerous talented footballers throughout his professional journey.
Despite having played alongside stars such as Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott, Iwobi selected Cazorla when asked to identify the greatest player he had ever played with.
The Nigerian midfielder revealed his choice ahead of this weekend’s Baller League event, highlighting the exceptional qualities of a footballer who remains hugely popular among Arsenal supporters.
Cazorla joined Arsenal for approximately £15 million and quickly established himself as an influential figure. His technical ability, creativity and outstanding control made him one of the club’s most admired midfielders.
Unfortunately, injuries disrupted some of the Spaniard’s finest years in north London. Nevertheless, his performances left a lasting impression on teammates and supporters, with many considering his transfer fee an exceptional bargain.
Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott recently praised Cazorla while discussing Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki, drawing comparisons between their remarkable two-footed ability.
“I’m gonna completely separate all these charges that Man City have,” Walcott said. “Rayan Cherki, after Santi Cazorla, has the — he’s two-footed, right? It’s amazing. I don’t even know which is his best foot.”
Walcott also admired Cherki’s composure and decision-making, explaining how his movement and finishing demonstrated impressive technical quality rather than simply relying on powerful shooting.
Another former Arsenal teammate, Jack Wilshere, has also highlighted Cazorla’s exceptional abilities, particularly during training sessions under legendary manager Arsene Wenger.
“The best ever I think for training was Santi Cazorla,” Wilshere said, praising the Spaniard’s technique, intelligent combinations and ability to use both feet comfortably.
Wilshere explained that Cazorla possessed an exceptional understanding of the game, allowing him to navigate tight spaces and execute intricate moves effortlessly during training.
Iwobi’s selection reinforces Cazorla’s enduring reputation among former teammates. Although injuries limited his Arsenal career, his extraordinary technique and creativity ensured he remains one of the most fondly remembered midfielders in the club’s recent history.
