According to a report by Metro on Thursday October 29, 2026, Liverpool will face Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, while holders Manchester City have been drawn against League One side Bradford City.
Liverpool secured their place in the last eight after defeating Chelsea in a penalty shootout at Anfield on Wednesday night. The match went to penalties after Cody Gakpo and Morgan Rogers scored from the spot during normal time.
Both sides missed opportunities in the shootout before Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana sent the decisive penalty over the crossbar, allowing Liverpool to progress.
The result also marked Liverpool’s fifth consecutive penalty shootout victory over Chelsea. The defeat was particularly disappointing for Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso and Jordan Henderson, who both returned to Anfield for the encounter.
Manchester City, meanwhile, needed penalties to overcome Brighton after Vitor Reis scored a 72nd-minute equaliser to send the tie to a shootout. Goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli proved decisive, saving two penalties to help the holders advance.
City will now welcome Bradford City, who defeated Peterborough United 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2013.
Elsewhere, Fleetwood Town will host either Everton or Newcastle United after producing a remarkable upset by eliminating Premier League champions Arsenal. Their reward is another opportunity to face top-flight opposition.
Crystal Palace will take on Sunderland at Selhurst Park in the remaining quarter-final tie. Palace progressed after beating Fulham, while Sunderland edged Brentford in a five-goal thriller.
The quarter-final fixtures are scheduled to take place during the week commencing December 14, 2026.
The Carabao Cup final will be held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, March 21, 2027, with the remaining eight teams now aiming to secure a place in the semi-finals.
